Her interest in community health began during her term as a student of the Women and Gender Studies department at UNC-Chapel Hill. In addition to her interests, Dr. Devasthali is a birth doula and a years-long student of herbalism with beloved local herbalist, Suki Roth. Dr. Devasthali’s journey into medical practice was rooted in acquiring the tools she needed to serve her community. During her tenure at UNC School of Medicine she was instrumental in organizing conversations and direct actions that framed national issues like racism, police brutality, and poverty as healthcare issues. After earning her MD, she began her residency at Duke University Hospital in Family Medicine. There, she helped create a reproductive justice curriculum in collaboration with Planned Parenthood. To address the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped to create accessible healthcare structures to reach underserved Spanish-speaking and Latinx families in Durham. And set up a burgeoning telemedicine system to keep patients safe from exposure while remaining in the care of her provider. After earning her license, she decided to set off on her own to create the type of practice that both she and her patients could find fulfilling. Dr. Devasthali is especially interested in comprehensive primary care, sexual and reproductive health including gender-affirming care, wellness for all size bodies (HAES aligned), and preventative medicine. She likes to bring in herbal medicines, community support groups and joyful movement into her practice wherever it makes sense for her patients. She seeks to build lifelong healing connections with her patients and their families.
